Lisbon Part Dois (Two)
So this is part two of Lisbon. I left off after having wine and codfish. Yum so good. I then looked to the left and saw the Santa Justa Lift this elevator takes you up to lgreja do Carmo church or at least the ruins of it. The cost to go up the elevator is 2.80 euro. Though you can get a metro ticket and use it on the elevator also. I did not go up the elevator as the line was fairly long.
This is the lgreja do Carmo Church. The roof collapsed during the 8.9 earthquake in 1955. It is currently a museum.
I then walked over to Rossio Square. This is a large square and one of the busiest in Lisbon. I sat here for a few minutes because I needed to check in for my flight back to Philly the next day, and I was watching the guy with the bubbles and kids.
After checking in I decided to walk some more. I walked over to Igreja de São Domingo. This church has been through two earthquakes and one fire and most of it is still standing. They were holding service when I went in. I was completely surprised by the orange walls and the burnt interior.
I then walked up to where the main train station is. I didn't know what it was the architecture was amazing and I took a photo. There was a Starbucks right next door but I didn't get a photo of that.
I then walked up the Avenida de Liberdade this was a very long avenue that had lots of canopied trees. It was quite picturesque. As I walked in that direction I saw the funicular. The one I saw was named Gloria and opened in 1885 it became a national monument in 2005. There are actually 3 of them they are called Gloria, Bica and Lavra. If you want to get on one you can use the same metro pass.
Alright, I have lots more photos so it will probably be one more blog post.
